What will be the rates in f Baku hotels during the Eurovision Song Contest 2012?
Room rates in Baku hotels during "Eurovision-2012" will be depending on the market conditions and defined by supply & demand, said to Trend news agency Head of tourism department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Aydin Ismiyev. "When demand is high, the private sector raises prices. Of course, in case of insufficient demand hotels will cut down prices. However, it is difficult to tell in advance whether prices would be high or low. The market will show " - said Ismiyev, adding that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism recommended the private sector not to raise rates.
"However, it is quite possible that hotels would not lower prices, arguing that the rooms are booked and occupied for a month or two in advance. Such pricing fluctuations happen not only in Azerbaijan but throughout the world," - said Ismiyev. According to him, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism recommended hotels to suspend all hotel bookings for the period of song contest and followed that recommendation. "So far we do not know how many guests will arrive in Baku on this occasion. So we want to make a proper planning, given and to make sure that tourists on their arrival here do not have problems with accommodation" - said Ismiyev.
A ministry spokesman did not say specifically when hotels will be able to resume bookings. "This issue will be resolved in the near future, and we will know what to do. So far we have not discussed this issue, so I just can not say anything," - said Ismiyev.
