The State Committee on Standardization, Metrology & Patents of Azerbaijan is establishing a technical committee on tourism.
Committee’s press service head Fazil Talibli says that in 2011 announced the Year of Tourism in the country a priority in SCSMPA’s activity is work in the tourism sector and in this connection a technical committee on tourism is under creation in the State Committee.
"Organizational work is at stage of completion. Over the next 10 days the Technical Committee on Tourism will be approved, as well as its structure and business plan. One of deputies of the culture & tourism ministers of Azerbaijan will be elected the chairman of the Committee and his deputy will be a representative of the SCSMPA. The committee will include representatives of local tourism companies and non-governmental organizations,” he said.
According to Talibli, the Committee will be the place for discussion of current problems and search of solutions for them.
"The main direction of Technical Committee’s activities will be development of standards in the tourism sector. Although currently Azerbaijan, as all other CIS countries, applies the GOST standards, the latter have become obsolete and the new standards, corresponding to modern European standards, should be introduced in the area of services. The new committee will also play an important role in the development of the tourism sector and its compliance with international standards, as in 2012 Baku will host contest Eurovision 2012 for which a lot of guests from different countries will come,” Talibli said.
This year the SCSMPA accepted only 1 standard in the field of tourism - the standard of direction signs.
