Only 70 hotels in Azerbaijan has been certified by Ministry of Tourism and received appropriate ‘star’ rating. According to minister ‘most hotels realise that they can’t meet the criteria to receive appropriate star rating and for this reason they don’t even apply for that certification.’ Mr. Garayev mentioned that only 6 hotels applied for certification in the last several months.
In year 2009 40 hotels were closed due to having no license. According to local legislation, all hotels has to be licensed to carry on their activity.
