BAKU/12.04.10/TURAN: The number of Azerbaijan's hotels, tourist centers, sanatoria, motels, etc. increased 22% to 452, including 89 (20%) in Baku. Overall 370 hotels, etc. are owned by local physical and juridical persons. In fact, 64 of the hotels named as state property by the State Statistics Committee are really sanatoria and holiday centers owned by by the Trade Unions Confederation, while 18 others were built by foreign investors or with their participation.

The State Statistics Committee said the number of hotel apartments increased 9.2% in 2009; so there are 12,789 of them now. They can host 30,500 visitors at the same time. The state-owned hotels include 3,854 apartments (27.5%), the private hotels include 8,947 (64%), and the hotels created with foreign capital include 1,163 (8.3%). Only 2,286 (16.3%) are luxury suites.

There are 4,369 hotel apartments able to host 7,768 visitors in Baku. There are 47% of the luxury suites here.

Azerbaijan's hotels cover 2.45 mln square meters. The residential area is only 15% of this total. The Baku hotels only cover 28.7% of the total (105,000 square meters).

The biggest accommodation provided by Azerbaijan's hotels was in 2009, when 8,151 apartments (58% of the total) were provided (+3% against 2008). The biggest monthly accommodation provided in Baku was 77%.

The Khachmaz district is one of the hotel business leaders in Azerbaijan. It has 41 hotels and holiday centers. The hotels include 1,766 apartments, which have 4,869 guest places. The monthly accommodation provided by the district's hotels did not exceed 1,317 apartments in 2009
