Iranian visa regime removal for Azerbaijan citizens will not affect local tourism

Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan believes that abolition of visa regime for Azeri citizens visiting Iran will not affect local tourism.

‘Even before visa regime removal by Iran Azeri citizens were actively visiting that country. I do not think that there will be rush among Azeris and they will flood to Iran. I think the situation in terms of tourism will stay the same’ – said spokesman for Ministry of Tourism of Azerbaijan Intigam Gumbatov. Talking about visa removal from Turkey and Iran for Azeri citizens and its impact to the local tourist business he said that this has not affected local business at all.

However, employee from local travel company said that new changes will force Azeri travel companies to reassess situation, research tourist markets of both Turkey and Iran and take appropriate measures in order to stay competitive with foreign counterparts. ‘We have to take all the measures to make Azeri tourists prefer staying in Azerbaijan instead of going overseas, and for this we have to improve our work considerably’ – said in travel company.
