Why Azerbaijan has less chances competing with Turkey in tourism area? 

Azerbaijan is in unfavourable position to compete with Turkey in tourism area, since even such countries as Italy, Greece or Spain can’t compete with Turkey at least in terms of prices. That was an opinion of Minister of Culture and tourism of Azerbaijan Abulfaz Garayev. 
"Tourist infrastructure in Turkey has been developing the last 40 years, and Azerbaijan, that is just started this process has a long way to go to reach similar results ", said Garayev.

According to minister Azerbaijan is realizing a program for the next 10-15 years. He also noted that last season some hotels in Azerbaijan dropped their prices up to 20% that gave a boost to local travel market. 

Garayev also said that around 5,000 new vacancies will be created with the construction of winter-summer resort ‘Shahdag’. The project itself will be present to foreign investors next spring. 

Construction of ‘Shahdag’ will be invested 25% by Azerbaijan, and the rest 75% by foreign investments. Project envisages creation of not only ski facilities but a number of entertainment and leisure facilities: hotels, restaurants, spas, etc. The returns from project should cover investments in 7-10 years. Estimated cost of resort construction is 2 billions euro.
