We have decided to start publishing testimonials & feedback of foreign tourists about Azerbaijan, about their experiences, what they like and what they don't. There are serious problems with tourism development in Azerbaijan and we hope this page will help somehow to draw attention of authorities and take concrete actions to improve a situation.
1. We were a group of 6 bikers that arranged Visa to Azerbaijan with help of your invitation.
29 of May 2011 we wanted to cross to boarder from Tbilisi to Baku.
But, at the boarder they informed us that we hade to pay deposition of 3500 US$ per motorbike.
We asked of course how we could get these many back and in what form (UD$?).
The officers did not answer that question with the result that we turned back into Georgia and entered Armenia instead.
I mentioned at the Azerbaijan Embassy in Stockholm Sweden when I asked for Visa that we wanted to go there by motorbikes, but I was not informed of any deposition for motorbikes.
It is very bad for Azerbaijan that they denied us and lost six tourists that were supposed to spend some money in your country for about one week.
So my question is if it is regularly with depositions or if it was only a way for the officers at the boarder to get more money in there pockets?

2. My friend is German citizen, visa application in Berlin, the details I can send you also, if o.k..
Please reply, whether you can get us the correct LOI with MFA approval for the Visa. If yes, we can transfer the money.
If the answer is NO, we will travel through Armenia to Iran. This is not a problem.
However, most likely we will not go through Azerbaijan, because of too much burocracy.
thanks

I'll be doing most of my Caucasus sightseeing (and thus spending) in Georgia, with some in Armenia. Azerbaijan, due to it's grotesque new visa regulations, I shall pass through on a mininum-expense trajectory, departing on the first available ferry (I wouldn't go to Azerbaijan at all if the alternatives weren't worse).

Thanks you for your response. We have decided after some consideration that the complex and expensive visa conditions for getting into Azerbaijan are too much for our budget and planned journey and we will be flying to Kazakhstan instead. Your assistance with our enquiries has been much appreciated and we would hope to make use of your service in the future should the visa situation improve.
Best wishes,

Greetings from Almaty, I regret to tell you that we have run into a major problem with getting our tourist visas to Azerbaijan. Three of our group are New Zealanders and we've been informed that they must apply for visas in person at the Azerbaijan embassy in Astana. Since we all live in Almaty, this is quite impossible to fly to Astana, submit the visa application and then wait there for a week to retrieve it.
